There’s a never ending flood of information and its easy to become a junkie. Its also easy to become so buried in information that you end up being counter-productive in all that you’re learning.
A big mistake made by new entrepreneurs and network marketers is trying to learn and master too many marketing strategies at one time.
There are so many strategies, gurus, webinars, seminars and courses all promising the “solution”. And you don’t want to wait – you want to know it all and you want to know it right now. We live in an instant gratification society and coupled with the information age, it can be over-powering and backfire.
So why is it a mistake to embark on learning several skill sets or marketing methods at once?
Think about this: you only have so much time and so much energy in a day and when you’re dividing your time and energy you’re not able to give your full attention to just one thing. Even a sponge can only soak up so much water before it becomes counter-productive at its job of being a sponge!
The secret to becoming wildly successful in marketing or as a home based business owner is to specialize in one area.
You want to become the “go to” person in that area.
In a recent blog we discussed the strategies of using no more than 3 strategies when you’re first starting out. Specialize in one strategy and use the additional strategies as support.
Set out to become the master at whatever it is you are the most passionate about.
When I started my on-line marketing venture I was first introduced to the concept of solo ads and banner ads. I had a hard time wrapping my head around this strategy but I was determined to learn it. One afternoon I became so frustrated I posted a comment on my mentor’s Facebook page, “I am frustrated & I don’t get it. I feel like I am trying to post sticky notes all over the internet!”
Buried under virtual sticky notes, I heard about Pro Blog Academy and I was able to be part of the pre-launch. I loved what I heard in the initial video and purchased the product. It was love at first blog.
For the first time in my adult life I was able to combine my love of writing, speaking (videos) and marketing!
A friend of mine, has taken to video marketing. She has a blog – a very nice one and she follows all of the golden rules of blogging, but her passion and forte is video marketing. She makes oodles of You Tube videos and pastes them all over the internet.
I will continue to learn about banner and solo ads and use them as a strategy but my primary on-line strategy is blogging. Its the marketing strategy that I am most passionate about and therefore I look forward to doing it every day.
Don’t forget that once you have mastered your strategy you will want to outsource it. Through oDesk, eLance and other on-line resources I can hire skilled writers to continue creating content for my blog. I all still write and make videos because I love it, but I can also have more time to keep up to date on the latest developments in blogging.
Also, by outsourcing I have more time to spend on developing other areas of marketing to develop even more traffic. Of course I also now have more time for more vacations!
